Luciano Nakata Albuquerque, born in Brazil to Spanish/Japanese parents, early on earned the moniker Curumin, a term reserved by indigenous Brazilians for their more precocious children. It was the 1970s in Sao Paulo, and with his older brother Curumin began his journey through the world’s music, from Jorge Ben to Devo to Bebeto. By the time he was 8, he’d already formed his first rock band with classmates, with pots and pans substituting for a proper drum kit. Within two years he’d formed another band, this time an instrumental funk group called ZU. By the time he was 14 he was already a percussionist at Sao Paulo’s top clubs. By 16 he’d taught himself to play keyboards as well.

Hola Mexico Film Festival, Saturday June 20th 2009

The first Hola Mexico Film Festival national tour in the USA is coming this June 9 – 28 in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York! It’s been a very difficult last few days for all of us. We are looking at a new and strange way that is challenging the way we live our lives. But this will come to an end soon, and our celebratory spirit will prevail! We wish everybody a safe and healthy time. On a bright note… We getting close to our festival in USA, the first ever Hola Mexico Film Festival national tour in USA! So in the coming days, we’ll release our films, schedule and poster. In the meantime here are the dates.

Born of Spanish, African, Chinese and French heritage, CuCuDiamantes is a fascinating singer-songwriter and actress from Cuba. Together with producer and guitarrist Andres Levin, Diamantes co-founded the sizzling-hot Latin fusion band, Yerba Buena, and was directly responsible for garnering major recognition and popularity for the band, including a Grammy nomination, special request performances with artists such as Dave Matthews, Ray Charles, Juanes and Celia Cruz.

John Martyn… we remember.

British singer-songwriter and guitarist. Over a forty-year career he released twenty studio albums. He grew up in Glasgow and attended Shawlands Academy.

John Martyn moved to London from Glasgow in the mid 1960s. He made his initial recorded impact in 1967, at the age of 19, with his debut album London Conversation. Since then he has become an integral part of the British music scene, incorporating folk, blues, jazz and even reggae into his unique sound.
